International Young Engineers Exchange Forum

2025-03-07

Thanks to the government's vigorous promotion, numerous professional engineering associations have engaged in promoting new energy and have made notable contributions to this cause. On 7 March 2025, the International Young Engineers Exchange Forum, organised by The HKIE Young Members Committee (HKIE YMC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Policy Research Centre for Innovation and Technology, was successfully held. The forum united young engineers from various regions, including China, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore, fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration.

Mr Don Cheng, Towngas Chief Operating Officer — Hong Kong Business, shared insights on the topic of “Hydrogen Economy and Applications”, addressing urgent environmental concerns such as rising global temperatures and increasing carbon emissions. As a leading supplier of green fuels, Towngas drives progress through innovative solutions, providing hydrogen, green methanol, and SAF/HVO to meet the demands of a low-carbon future. The 8th International Conference – Roadmap to Net Zero

2025-02-28

On 27 and 28 February 2025, the 8th International Conference – Roadmap to Net Zero, organised by the City University of Hong Kong and the Energy Institute (Hong Kong Branch), provided a platform for experts, researchers, and industry professionals to share various innovative technologies and solutions for promoting carbon neutrality and to foster collaboration and exchange. On the first day of the conference, Mr Peter Wong, Managing Director of Towngas, highlighted that Towngas has been pioneering innovative technologies, leading the energy transition, and leveraging the extensive gas pipeline network and hydrogen extraction facilities across Hong Kong to provide cost-effective hydrogen energy.

On the following day, Mr Don Cheng, Towngas Chief Operating Officer — Hong Kong Business, discussed the opportunities for energy innovation and transition at the conference. He shared Towngas's successful stories and provided unique insights into the potential for green energy development. Biogas can be used not only for producing green hydrogen but also as the primary fuel for combined heat and power systems. Additionally, green methanol produced from biomass waste and end-of-life tyres, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from waste vegetable oils and agricultural waste, and the use of residual heat from Tai Po Gas Production Plant to support the operation of large desiccant dehumidifiers at the nearby Maxim's food factory, all embody the environmental concept of "waste to energy". Looking ahead, Towngas will continue to explore and implement more environmental projects.

Technical Forum on Control and Practice of Fresh Water Cooling Towers and Buildings Energy Efficiency 2024‐25

2025-02-25

On 14 February, Towngas Project Marketing & Sales Department Senior Engineer Mr Kyle Au and Mr Allen Cheng were invited to the Technical Forum on Control and Practice of Fresh Water Cooling Towers and Buildings Energy Efficiency 2024‐25, organised by EMSD at HKPC Building, to share innovative energy projects in gas dehumidification.

Towngas actively collaborates with various industries to explore energy efficiency solutions. During the seminar, Towngas representatives shared several successful cases. For instance, the D-PAU system deployed at H Zentre (Tsim Sha Tsui) combines the Integrated D-PAU with renewable energy from solar collectors. This environmentally friendly design not only improves air quality but also maintains temperature and humidity precisely. Another remarkable initiative is Towngas’s inter-plant heat transfer waste-to-energy project. This project utilises residual heat produced during gas production and transfers it to the neighbouring Maxim’s food factory for dehumidification, resulting in reduced energy consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions.

In the future, Towngas will continue to develop more innovative energy efficiency solutions, promote energy saving and renewable energy development, and contribute to sustainable development and carbon neutrality.

Hydrogen Zero Carbon STEAM Carnival

2025-02-23

The Hydrogen Zero Carbon STEAM Carnival, organised by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) and co-organised by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Construction Industry Council - Zero Carbon Park (CIC-ZCP), was held from 22 to 23 February 2025 at the CIC-ZCP in Kowloon Bay. The carnival integrated educational elements of STEAM in an innovative and interactive way, showcasing the development prospects and potential applications of hydrogen technology whilst attracting young people’s participation.

Construction sites nowadays frequently rely on diesel generators for temporary power supply. Towngas and Chi Shing (Hong Kong) Group recently signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop the hydrogen power generation business and promote green energy industry development. For the first time, this carnival exhibited their jointly developed innovative solution — the hydrogen fuel generator. It provides power to construction sites using hydrogen, replacing traditional diesel generators, and striving to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
