Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Metal Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong 3D Printing Association and the Faculty of Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the seminar titled “AI Empowering New Quality Productive Forces: Unlocking Future Ways of Living” was held on 14 January 2026 at PolyU. The event invited experts from various sectors of Hong Kong’s industrial community to share forward‑looking perspectives from multiple angles, including new energy, 3D printing technologies, AI applications and cross‑disciplinary innovation.

Ir Sammy Kong Siu‑kuen, General Manager – Commercial & Industrial Marketing & Sales of Towngas, was invited as a speaker. He shared how the Group applies AI technologies across diverse business scenarios, ranging from customer service to engineering inspection, while also driving green transformation to achieve the dual goals of operational efficiency and sustainable development.

Mr Raymond Poon Kwok‑ying, Director of the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department, and Mr Sammy Kong Siu‑kuen, General Manager – Commercial & Industrial Marketing & Sales of Towngas, share insights into global hydrogen development trends, overseas application models and cost challenges, while examining the opportunities and pathways for local deployment in Hong Kong.

The discussion highlights Towngas’ proactive efforts in advancing hydrogen applications locally, including the deployment of integrated hydrogen power generator to provide temporary electricity supply for the 15th National Games golf tournament venue, future plans for local green hydrogen production, and the development roadmap for electric vehicle automatic hydrogen charging system. The dialogue also reviews the latest developments in national and Hong Kong hydrogen policies, as well as their long‑term outlook.

Hydrogen Applications and Future Development in Hong Kong

Mr Don Cheng Hiu‑kwong, Chief Operating Officer – Hong Kong Business of Towngas, together with Dr Shui Chi‑wai, Vice President and Executive Director of the Public Policy Institute of Our Hong Kong Foundation, share perspectives on hydrogen deployment in transportation, construction site power generation and electricity supply for large‑scale events.

The discussion explores how hydrogen can support the construction industry’s transition towards “green construction sites”, while introducing local green hydrogen production projects, emerging regulatory frameworks, and the future development of the hydrogen industry value chain in Hong Kong.

Solar photovoltaic and energy storage markets in the Chinese mainland

Mr Charles Tsoi Chau-chi, General Manager – Commercial & Industrial Services & Business Development and Executive of GBA Business Project Development Office of Towngas, to gather with Mr Deng Tao, Senior Vice President of Towngas Energy Investment Limited, shared the latest developments in solar photovoltaic and energy storage markets. They also discussed the strategic layout and opportunities across the hydrogen energy value chain, and outlined Towngas’ strategy and vision in its transformation towards becoming a green energy supplier.

Hong Kong is at a pivotal stage in its energy transition. Driven by the China’s "3060 Dual Carbon Targets" and the 15th Five-Year Plan, Towngas is strengthening the integration of its diversified business portfolio and creating greater synergies. We are accelerating technological innovation while leveraging AI to enhance competitiveness. After years of focused development, Towngas has expanded beyond its well‑known town gas business into a comprehensive range of clean energy solutions across sea, land and air, including green methanol, distributed photovoltaics, hydrogen energy and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Progress has also been made on the financial front through the issuance of Quasi‑REITs products, enabling sustainable financing channels for renewable energy projects.
