TVB "Scoop" Interview - Introduction of SENT Landfill Gas Utilization Project and related application

Towngas General Manager – Commercial and Industrial Marketing and Sales Mr. Don Cheng has been interviewed by "Scoop" on Jade, TVB recently to talk about the fuel mix for Town Gas Production. As far back as the 1970s, Towngas switched the production feedstock from coal and heavy oil to naphtha, which yields a cleaner gas. In 2006, natural gas was introduced as a dual feedstock with naphtha in gas production. Also, landfill gas treat plants are constructed to promote the application of renewable energy. The treated gas can be used as fuel in gas production, turning waste to energy. Some theme parks, hospitals and Towngas Telecom Hong Kong Data Centre 2 are the users of landfill gas. The programme was broadcast at 7:30pm on 26 December 2019 on TVB Jade.

 

Hong Kong Hotels Association Colloquium

Towngas has been endlessly cooperating with hotels on gas safety and management, innovative gas equipment and eco-friendly applications. On 24 October 2019, Towngas representatives were invited to attend the Hong Kong Hotels Association Colloquium, and introduced the innovative towngas technology and application to over 30 Hotel Engineers Committee members.

Not only does Towngas furnish hot water and steam for hotel's central hot water systems, we provide cooking ranges equipped for Chinese or Western cuisines. Our gas dehumidifier and direct-fired absorption chillers have also proven popular for controlling relative humidity and temperature respectively in indoor swimming pools and guestrooms. In addition, Towngas also vigorously promotes the application of recent award-winning Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system to hotels; and improves the heat recovery efficiency of flame cooking appliances to bring energy saving to hotels. The participating hotel engineers showed great interest to these gas appliances, and shared the collective views of the industry based on their rich hotel management experience, thus to contemplate ways of putting these solutions into practice. The colloquium brought together different hotel practitioners, sharing useful information on related matters and promoting greater unity and co-operation among the hotel industry.

 

Hong Kong Disneyland 10K Weekend 2019

The annual Disney Run event "Hong Kong Disneyland 10K Weekend 2019" was held in Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on 3 Nov 2019. Towngas invited a number of celebrity chefs and their families to participate 'Monsters, Inc. 3K', as well as representatives from the Catering Associations to participate in 'Toy Story 10K'. It was an unforgettable experience for running in the park. Disney friends and Pixar pals cheered on runners  along the route at the theme park. This fun-filled running event provided an opportunity for bringing our catering industry together to enjoy the amusing atmosphere and join hands to promote healthy living.

 

FoodSmart Conference for the Food and Beverage Trade

Sponsored by Towngas, the FoodSmart Conference for the Food and Beverage Trade was held on 24 September 2019 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Jointly organised by“FoodSmart Partnership Programme”(FSPP) and the Environmental Protection Department, the event provided a one-stop-solution for the food and beverage trade to tackle the food waste problem in Hong Kong.

Towngas exhibited the environmental projects with concept of“turning waste into energy”and showcased a series of green awards received. Towngas representatives were invited to give a speech on environmental cooking equipment, food waste treatment technologies in Suzhou, China, as well as the best practices and technologies of environmental and food waste management for achieving environmental excellence and sustainability.

 

Dragon King Cup Charity Golf Tournament 2019

Hosted jointly by Towngas and the Dragon King Group Holdings Limited, the Dragon King Charity Golf Tournament 2019 was successfully held on 21 June 2019 in Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling. This charity tournament serves to spread positivity as well as underpin the importance of well-being, by providing a platform for the participant to exercise for charity. Besides, the fund is raised for Hong Kong Impaired Golfer Association and Cornerstone Association.

Towngas was invited to participate in the grand opening ceremony of this meaningful event. Dragon King Charity Golf Tournament 2019 brought together different parties in the catering industries, facilitating and fostering the communication and connection among participants by doing beneficent work of charity while relishing the fun of golfing.

 

Four Leading Catering Associations Football Match

Sponsored by Towngas, the annual spotlighted event - The Four Leading Catering Associations Football Match was held on 31 May 2019 Jockey Club HKFA Football Training Centre  in Tseung Kwan O. Much like last year's event, this match received the keen support of the Association for Hong Kong Catering Services Management, the Association of Restaurant Managers, the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades Limited and the Institution of Dining Art, with the active participation of teams from each group.

The match kicked off with Towngas team opening the featured game against the co-team comprising representatives from the four participating associations. After that, the four teams faced their challenges and fierce competition from their counterparts in much-anticipated matches. The audience applauded and cheered their respective supporting teams ardently, further heating up the intensity of the matches. The teams' competitive spirit and energetic vibe were highly appreciated. The communications and the spirit of collaboration among different associations of the catering industry were facilitated through the full commitment to the football matches and enjoyment of the sport.

Followed by heavy sweating with joy, the participants and guests moved on to enjoy an appetizing feast. The banquet included an award presenting session, lucky draw and souvenir presentation. These marked the end of a series of sensational sessions in The Four Leading Catering Associations Football Match 2019.

Choi Fook Wedding Banquet Group has adopted flame cooking by installing gas appliances across all its branches. Found in 2017, Choi Fook Fans Club has received sponsor and support from Towngas for the competition"Top Chefs of the Choi Fook Fans Club". Receiving popular demands and an enthusiastic response from the preliminary contests, the final round of "Top Chefs of the Choi Fook Fans Club" was held at the Towngas Cooking Centre on 26 May 2019. Over 20 betrothed couples learned to prepare flame-cooked Chinese dishes under the demonstration and guidance of Mr. Ho Chi Keung, Managing Director of Choi Fook Wedding Banquet Group.  The champion, the first runner-up and the second runner-up of the competition were rigorously selected among the top chefs in pairs. The event not only provided an opportunity for young couples to meet one another, but also introduced participants to the benefits and fun of flame cooking.

 

HOFEX 2019

The HOFEX 2019 exhibition was held from 7 to 10 May this year at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Following the theme "SMART TOWNGAS", Towngas cooperated with six partnered exhibitors, namely Champion Group International Limited, Wang Sang Chun Yick Holdings Limited (general agent: Man Dat Gas Engineering Company Limited), Pro-Fit Industrial Co. Limited, Pacific Foodservice Equipment Co. Limited, Kitchen Icon Limited and Golden Target Kitchen Engineering Limited. Drawing inspiration from six core elements, namely, creativity, safety, automation, efficiency, environmental protection and cool kitchen, we introduced a series of innovative and automated gas appliances and equipment to commercial and industrial customers. The new products bring greater competitiveness to the industry and improve the occupational safety and health of employees. They also optimize cooking processes and kitchen management, enabling chefs to bring out the advantages of flame-cooking.

Towngas is continuously working towards environmental protection and sustainable development, through the provision of safe and reliable green energy for the industry. This year we collaborated with our fellow exhibitors to include online-to-offline (O2O) elements in their booths. Using the internet and smartphones, participants are able to learn more about the benefits of using commercial and industrial gas equipment, as well as latest technological developments in the catering industry. This in turn has helped foster new business opportunities.

 

Rotary Club of Central's Massive Beach Clean-up

Towngas has continuously promoted environmental protection out of a deep commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Towngas joined the Massive Beach Clean-up, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Central, on 3 March 2019. This activity was held at Waterfall Bay in Aberdeen in collaboration with nine companies from different industries: Bank of China, Chow Tai Fook, Cinda International Holdings, Everbright Sun Hung Kai, FWD Group, Hung Hing Printing Group, LH Group, Meinhardt (M&E) and HKSH Medical Group.

Towngas was honoured to contribute and commit to social responsibility by protecting the environment, reducing pollution and furthering sustainability with our participation with colleagues and families.

 

Four Leading Catering Associations Spring Dinner

Towngas has been cooperating with the catering industry for many years, and supports the promotional activities of a number of catering associations. This year Towngas sponsored the Four Leading Catering Associations Spring Dinner, which was held on 25 February 2019 in the ballroom of L’Hotel Nina at Convention Centre in Tsuen Wan, which provided a forum platform for strengthening industry relationships.

The spring dinner was jointly organised by the Four Leading Catering Associations – the Association of Restaurant Managers, the Association for Hong Kong Catering Services Management, the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades Limited, and the Institution of Dining Art, which is a major fixture on the Hong Kong catering-industry calendar. This social event aims to strengthen friendships, and promote the development of the catering industry, in a city charged with advancing Cantonese cuisine while preserving its essence.

In support of the Spring Dinner, Towngas Commercial & Industrial Marketing & Sales Department decorated the venue, planned and produced a special issue for celebration. The booklet also recorded the activities and events of Towngas and the four catering associations over the past year, as well as promoted the benefits of flame cooking.

 

HKIE Inter-Division Courses: Cooling and Chiller Systems

Towngas was invited to be guest speaker at the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers' (HKIE) inter-division courses on 9 and 23 January 2019. Co-organised by HKIE's Gas & Energy, Environmental, and Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture & Chemical Divisions, the inter-division courses are designed to enable engineers and practitioners to refresh and acquire new knowledge in fields such as solid waste management and reusable energy.

Towngas representatives introduced various gas appliances during the Cooling and Chiller Systems session, designed to improve the technical standards of local engineers. Topics included the Combined Heat & Power System's design and application in Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, as well as the mechanisms of gas-absorption chiller and desiccant dehumidification, which were illustrated via industrial case studies.
