Towngas joins hands with Nethersole Hospital to turn waste into energy using the CHP Generating System

2017-01-24

Towngas introduced the Combined Heat and Power Generating System (CHP Generating System) in collaboration with Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (Nethersole Hospital). The launching ceremony of this System, the first of its kind in Hong Kong provided for public hospitals, was held on 24 January 2017.
With the CHP Generating System, Nethersole Hospital will utilise landfill gas to generate electricity, which can not only turn waste into energy, but also provide electricity, steam and hot water for the facilities of the Hospital.

The CHP Generating System Energy Centre has been built since August 2015 and the project was completed and commissioned in November 2016. It is expected that gas consumption of Nethersole Hospital can be decreased by about 25% with the application of the CHP Generating System, and the annual carbon emissions will also be reduced by about 2,000 tons, equivalent to the planting of 86,620 trees every year, which accounts for 12% of the Hospital's total emissions. This project can help improve air quality to create a greener environment and realise the green concept of “turning waste into energy”.
